Hello! This is Hanlu Ma, currently a first-year PhD student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, working under the supervision of Prof. Huamin Qu in VisLab. Her research interests include data visualization (particularly data storytelling), data-driven art, and human-computer interaction.
Before joining HKUST, she earned a BFA in Visual Communication and a MFA in Information Art & Design from Tsinghua University, where she graduated from The Future Laboratory, along with a double degree of MSc from Politecnico di Milano.
Hanlu also has extensive industry experience, having worked as designer for Alibaba Cloud and 2x4 Beijing.Her works has been recognized by top design awards, including Golden Pin Design Award, ADI Design Index, Information is Beautiful Award and GDC Award. She is also a manga enthusiast and artist.
